If you are a first time mom, sifting through the miles of baby items at the store can be overwhelming. I remember trying to create a registry and standing in the bottle aisle wondering why there were so many choices. Which one was I supposed to register for and what’s the big difference?
Fast-forward to today, I have had 2 babies in less than 2 years (17 months apart to be exact) and I know the baby must haves that have made my life SO. MUCH. EASIER. So without further ado, I’m gonna help you out, so you can get the must have baby stuff right away!
While you’re here, here’s a few posts that can really help you save money as a new mom:
Baby Must Have 1: Dr. Smith’s Spray Diaper Cream
There are so many diaper creams out there, but this one is worth it’s weight in gold.
You want to know why?
If your baby has the unfortunate occurrence of a really bad diaper rash, this is the stuff that will save you. Both of my babies have had times where they’ve had diarrhea for days and days. Diarrhea that is SO frequent that their rash doesn’t have any time to heal. Their little tushes get so sore, they start crying when I’m laying them down for a diaper change.
But this spray diaper cream is SO awesome because you don’t have to touch their super sore bottoms to apply it. This diaper cream is applied just like spray paint and my kids LOVE it. They laugh while I’m spraying their bottoms and it actually works well!
Also worth mentioning, I have had a SUPER tough time finding this in stores (Walgreens, CVS, Walmart, and Target.) Therefore, you should stock up BEFORE you need it. You don’t want to wish you’d bought it!
Baby Must Have 2: Munch Mitt
Babies can start teething as early as 3 months old. At that point in time, most have very limited motor skills, which makes grasping and maneuvering a teething toy difficult.
This teething toy is similar to an oven mitt; it goes over their hand and has a little velcro strap. The mitt has a textured rubber surface on the edges, which is perfect for a teething baby.
Baby Must Have 3: Wubbanub Pacifier
If your baby takes a pacifier, you probably know that it falls out of their mouth several times a day! It can start to drive you crazy when you’re constantly putting it back in their mouth – especially in the middle of the night!
These pacifiers have cute stuffed animals attached to the end of them, which makes it easier to stay in place (on your babies chest) and for them to push it back in. (Not completely fool proof – but about as good as it gets when they are young!)
Baby Must Have 4: Indestructible Books
These indestructible books are super handy because they literally are indestructible. When your baby is around 6 months old they will start to get curious when you’re reading to them and will try to grab onto pages. These books can be chewed on, smashed and bent however they wish!
I’ve tried to rip ours and they truly are indestructible!
Baby Must Have 5: Drop-stopper
Perhaps you’ve put your baby in a shopping cart and they dropped their sippy cup. You probably cringed when they motioned that they wanted it back…
This device will suction cup onto a surface and then tether your baby’s teething toy or sippy cup to it, so you don’t have to worry about germs. Perfect for attaching their toys or sippy cups to high chairs or strollers.
Baby Must Have 6: Baby Calendar
Keeping track of baby milestones can be tough (well, at least it was for me). I was always so busy, I put off writing things down in the baby books, which ultimately at the end of the day, meant it usually didn’t get written down.
One way to make writing down memorable moments a little easier is to get a “baby calendar.” It’s a 12-month calendar that you fill in the dates on, so it can start with whatever month your baby is born.
These calendars give you a space to write down memorable moments from each month and typically come with stickers to make it easy to keep track of special times.
If you hang this on your wall, it makes jotting down important things a little easier.
Baby Must Have 7: Leak Proof and Spill Proof Sippy Cups
These are the only leak proof and spill proof sippy cups I’ve ever found. I should have known that my daycare knew what they were doing in using these. But no, I tried every other sippy cup under the sun because these didn’t look like anything special.
These sippy cups are easy to wash and are as robust as they come. They are leak proof, spill proof, and bite proof. These are the only ones you’ll ever need to buy.
Baby Must Have 8: Pack N’Play Mattress
When my husband put the Pack N’Play together for the first time, he was baffled at how flexible the standard “mattress” was. The mattress folds up to make it portable, which means it has some accordion like maneuverability.
If you have your new baby sleeping in your bedroom in the Pack N’Play (which seems to be very common), then you want to make sure they are sleeping on a safe surface.
This foam mattress was incredibly nice to have and we’ve lent it to several friends. It doesn’t fold up, which makes it slightly inconvenient for traveling, but it does make the Pack N’Play feel more crib like.
