Easter Riddle For kids

Are you looking for an Easter activity to do with your kids? Your kids will have so much fun solving this Easter riddle, by finding eggs that contain clues to help them decode the riddle’s answer.

My kids absolutely love scavenger hunts. At Christmas, we did a Gingerbread Hunt, for Valentine’s Day we did this Cupid Scavenger Hunt, and now for Easter, I decided to switch it up a bit by having them solve an Easter riddle.

My 4 and 6 year old boys will have a great time finding eggs, opening them up, filling in the key on the worksheet, and then solving the cute answer to the riddle.

Additionally, I think this is a great activity because it incorporates some learning. While opening up the eggs, they can identify the numbers and letters. Then they will get to practice their handwriting while filling in the worksheet.

supplies for the easter riddle activity

For this activity you will need 4 supplies: the code slips (that go inside the eggs), copies of the riddle worksheet (1 per child), some plastic Easter eggs, and some writing utensils.

I suggest printing the Easter riddle worksheet on cardstock, as I think it is easier for young kids to carry around a piece of cardstock instead of regular copy paper. Additionally, if they have to erase, cardstock is a little more forgiving.

Any plastic Easter eggs should work for this (just use what you have!) At minimum, you need 13 eggs for this activity, but if you have multiple kids, you could hide 13 eggs for each kid. I’d just have one child find all the pink eggs, another find all the blue eggs, etc. All the eggs will have the same code slips.

I would suggest having your child fill in the worksheet with a pencil, that way they can erase if they make a mistake.

Setting up the easter riddle activity

For this activity, you simply need to cut out the code slips and randomly put them inside the plastic Easter eggs. You don’t need to know which clue is inside which egg, it doesn’t matter.

If you are filling going to have each child find their own set of eggs, just be sure you put 13 different clues inside their eggs. (Make sure you don’t put two 1=B inside 2 of their eggs).

After your done putting the code slips inside the eggs, you’ll need to hide them. You can hide the eggs inside or outside, whatever you prefer.

Another way you could use this Easter Riddle Activity for the neighborhood:

In the past we’ve done this activity as a neighborhood Easter scavenger hunt. To do this, I would use to chalk to draw the eggs on the sidewalk. Each egg would include the code information, like B=1. I typically drew them on the sidewalk in front of houses where I knew the neighbors.

Then I would email the riddle worksheets and instructions out to the interested families. The kids could walk around the neighborhood to find the eggs on the sidewalk. It is a great social distancing activity! My kids loved watching their friends walk by solving the riddle! (Not to mention my kids had fun drawing eggs on the sidewalk).

Now that you have everything set up, it’s time to let your kids solve the Easter riddle!

Explain to them that you’ve hidden 13 eggs. If you have multiple children solving the riddle and they are old enough, you could ask them to fill in their worksheet as they go and leave the eggs hidden. That way all the kids must find the egss on their own.

If your children are young, it may work best to have them find all of the eggs and then have everyone sit down to fill in the worksheets together (that’s what I plan to do).

If you want to make it more fun, you could hide 13 eggs for each kid (with the same set of clues in each). All pinks go to kid A, all blues go to kid B, etc.
